A puzzle has more than one piece? Building Your Health Puzzle: My Journey to Transformation
Health is like a puzzle. Each piece—mindset, nutrition, movement, rest—seems small alone, but together, they create something extraordinary. For two decades, I ignored my health puzzle, stuck on a yo-yo roller coaster of diets and energy swings, convinced I had it figured out. If you’ve stared in the mirror after years of ups and downs, you know the mental and physical toll. My wake-up call came from my wife, who bravely tackled her own health journey. Her courage to ask for help inspired me to face my puzzle, even as a man nearing 40, when pride screamed, “I’ll do it alone.” Spoiler: going solo doesn’t work. Swallowing my pride, I found four cornerstones that changed everything. I admitted I wasn’t healthy, sought professional help at Epic Integrative Wellness, became obsessed with understanding my body through bloodwork and research, and built a sustainable routine. Consistency—that elusive piece—felt like it was buried in a couch cushion, finally within reach.
I was 41 years old and 4 kids deep and pretty happy with my dad bod. From the first meeting… just in the first five minutes, I realized… man, I’m not living the type of life I could be. And look, I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life right now.
As I start seeing my own health metrics take off, it started becoming apparent I have to expose my team to this. You won’t be able to put it on a spreadsheet, what it means to that employee that you’re willing to invest in their personal health. I think it’s one of the best things, if not the best thing we’ve ever done for our leadership team. I’ve seen the difference in their attitudes in meetings when it’s that 2 or 3 o’ clock meeting.
After only 12 months, the impact is clear. I can’t wait to see the difference in 24 and 36 months… It has changed our culture for the better and I just can’t recommend it enough.
Back in the day, I used to be a personal trainer… and no matter how much I would work out, it still didn’t work. I did what most people do, and I went to my family practitioner. They basically said I was within range. Once I met Amanda and Kelsey and I got on that journey, it literally changed my life. What I liked is she listened… I had labs drawn, and that was when I was so shocked on how much hormones I actually needed.
My sleep has been better, my brain fog is gone, my energy is tenfold, my happiness is amazing. What it’s done for even our marriage, our intimacy… You’re more playful. You’re happier. You giggle again. I thought, ‘this is what I felt like literally 10 years ago.’ It’s more reasonable than people think. And for your health, it’s worth every penny and so much more.
I have been in the fitness industry for over 20 years. And in the past three years, I found myself just struggling. I was doing everything I possibly could… and I just was at a standstill of what was going on with my body. For once someone was listening to me. (So often) I feel like you’re grouped into just one big group. This is what we give women when they turn 40… And Kelsey and Amanda were like, ‘this is what we’re going to do for you. This is your plan, not a group of women.’
Epic has helped me in so many ways. I feel like I’m a different person. I feel like I am balanced. I feel like I have control of my life, and I’m just a much happier person. To know that you don’t have to deal with it, to know that you have people that will help you through that time, and you can even feel better than you did 20 years ago.
