A Puzzle that has more than one piece?
Building Your Health Puzzle: My Journey to Transformation
Health is like a puzzle. Each piece—mindset, nutrition, movement, rest—seems small alone, but together, they create something extraordinary. For two decades, I ignored my health puzzle, stuck on a yo-yo roller coaster of diets and energy swings, convinced I had it figured out. If you’ve stared in the mirror after years of ups and downs, you know the mental and physical toll. My wake-up call came from my wife, who bravely tackled her own health journey. Her courage to ask for help inspired me to face my puzzle, even as a man nearing 40, when pride screamed, “I’ll do it alone.” Spoiler: going solo doesn’t work. Swallowing my pride, I found four cornerstones that changed everything. I admitted I wasn’t healthy, sought professional help at Epic Integrative Wellness, became obsessed with understanding my body through bloodwork and research, and built a sustainable routine. Consistency—that elusive piece—felt like it was buried in a couch cushion, finally within reach.
No Unicorns, Just Truth
There’s no magic pill or quick fix. Like 85% of Americans, I was in metabolic distress, impacting not just me but my family, coworkers, and life. The good news? Fixing your health isn’t as complicated as it seems, especially with experts like Epic guiding you. Here’s how I built my puzzle, piece by piece.
Cornerstone 1: Mindset
Your mind is the foundation. If you’re not fully committed, save your energy. Positive self-talk transformed my journey. Instead of beating myself up, I learned to push forward with kindness. Research shows believing in your change can reshape your body at a cellular level. Tell yourself you’re capable, and your body listens. I still struggle with this, but every “I can do this” stacks a win.
Cornerstone 2: Team
My wife was my rock, but your team can be anyone—a partner, friend, or professional like Epic’s Kelsey and Amanda. They didn’t just prescribe; they dug into my history, bloodwork, and goals, revealing deficiencies I’d ignored. Unlike rushed doctor visits, Epic built a plan for me. Find an accountability partner, and if you’re solo, lean on professionals. Their InBody scale tracked my progress—not just weight, but metabolic wins like muscle gain and fat loss. Wearables (I use a Whoop) keep you honest, setting daily goals to stack wins.
Cornerstone 3: Knowledge
Understanding why and how your body works is power. Books and podcasts opened my eyes to bloodwork insights—nutrient levels, metabolic markers—and how lifestyle affects health. Ask questions at appointments. Know your numbers. Don’t fixate on weight; focus on what’s happening inside, like addressing deficiencies to boost energy and mood.
Cornerstone 4: Consistency
No single food or workout fixes it all. My family adopted an 80/20 rule: 80% clean eating
—organic veggies, lean proteins, no sugar or bad oils—and 20% life’s joys, like pizza at a kid’s birthday party. You’ve earned that slice if you’re consistent. Hydration matters too; I ditched soda (it’s poison) and limited alcohol. Epic’s supplements, tailored to my bloodwork, filled nutrient gaps, supporting my energy and focus.
Move and Rest
Use your body daily—walk, lift, stretch, or row. I start mornings with a workout; it sets the rhythm for clean eating and supplements. Find what you’ll stick with. Recovery is just as crucial. I foam roll, stretch, and prioritize sleep (7–8 hours in a dark, cool room). Saunas and stretching became game-changers for stress relief and recovery, boosting my results.
The Payoff
Every piece—mindset, team, knowledge, consistency, movement, rest—transformed me. I’m a better husband, father, leader, and friend. My energy, focus, and joy are unrecognizable. You can’t out-train a bad diet or sleep through poor nutrition. But with Epic’s guidance and your commitment, every piece can start to connect.
Your Turn
Your health puzzle is waiting. Start with one piece: book a consultation, check your bloodwork, or swap soda for water. Lean on your family, educate your kids—they’ll cheer you on. Tell yourself you deserve to be great and use resources like Epic Integrative Wellness to build your masterpiece. My life’s better because I did. Yours can be too.
